There are a lot of reasons for using a hole saw. A hole saw that cuts a 6” diameter hole like Tech Team’s #756 is the perfect accessory for cutting the holes for a corn hole game or cutting out the circular holes for high hat recessed lighting. The saw is composed of several parts. There’s a round cutting blade, then there is an arbor with a pilot drill, a yolk that holds the drive pins, and finally a special nut that holds everything together. The saw is designed to work with a standard 3/8” power drill on its low speed setting. If you are cutting holes in drywall, the cut will be reasonably fast, maybe 25-30 seconds for a piece of ½ drywall. On the other hand, if you are cutting plywood, you can expect it to take up to 2-3 minutes to make the cut. One thing you want to avoid is making the entire cut through one side, as that will leave ragged edges on the opposite side. The correct procedure is to begin the cut on one side, and then go to the other side of the material and put the pilot drill into the pilot hole and cut through from that side. This way you will have clean even surfaces on both edges.
