This guitar is too cool not to share. Played by ‪@Jordan_Thomas‬, This 1939 Gibson ES-150 just arrived from the U.S. and it is beautiful. 1936 The Gibson ES-150 was arguably the first commercially viable electric guitar to exist. There were earlier guitars, most notably the Rickenbacher Frying Pan of 1932 and their early Spanish style guitar with horseshoe magnets from the same time, however it wasn't until 1936 when Gibson released their ES-150 model, with the big "bar" pickup, tucked away under the strings, that the electric guitar became a practical instrument to be sold in any serious quantity.

It wasn't till 1937 that the ES-150 really started making their way into the hands of players. Shortly there after, a young man called Charlie Christian picked up one of these and made it sing. His toneful and melodic single note lines featured with the Benny Goodman Sextet are iconic. Gibson really got it right the first time. Listen to "Solo Flight" or "Stompin' at the Savoy" and you'll hear some of the greatest jazz guitar tones to ever come out of an electric guitar.
