We recently spent four incredible days on the enchanting island of Kuramathi, a tropical paradise located just an hour from Malé International Airport by speedboat. This island truly exceeded our expectations with its lush vegetation, including majestic 300-year-old banyan trees, and numerous jungle walks that made us feel like we were in a serene, natural wonderland.
Kuramathi is one of the largest islands in the Maldives, stretching approximately 2 kilometers in length and 400 meters in width. Its vast expanse includes a stunning sandbank at the island's end. In our experience, the island feels divided into two distinct parts: the western part and the eastern part.
Our home for the stay was an overwater deluxe villa on the western side, perfectly situated for breathtaking sunset views. We were absolutely enamored with our villa. It was incredibly spacious, and the bathtub offered a picturesque view through the glass doors, making for some truly unforgettable moments of relaxation.
The island is brimming with amenities and activities. With nearly 13 restaurants to choose from, a variety of accommodations, and a water sports center offering both motorized and non-motorized sports, there is something for everyone. We particularly enjoyed our paddleboarding session, gliding over the crystal-clear waters.
Kuramathi also boasts two receptions, a diving center, a quaint marine museum, a snorkeling center, and numerous bars. There are three main pool areas, a luxurious spa, a tennis court, a yoga shala, a cozy coffee shop, an ice cream parlor, and a kids' center, ensuring that all visitors, regardless of age, can find something to enjoy.
Dining on the island was a delightful experience. We savored the diverse cuisine at the main restaurant, Farivalhu, relished the delectable Italian dishes at Finholu, and enjoyed a memorable meal at Inguru Restaurant, where the onion soup and Greek salad were as delightful as the stunning views. The culinary scene on Kuramathi is further elevated by the presence of three talented French chefs, and the pastry chef in particular was exceptional. The cakes and sweets in the main restaurant were nothing short of amazing, adding a sweet touch to our daily dining experiences.
Kuramathi is a perfect blend of endless entertainment, activities, and facilities, all set on a naturally beautiful island with vibrant reefs, white sandy beaches, lush vegetation, and historic banyan trees. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our stay and are already looking forward to our next visit. This island truly has a piece of our hearts.
