I had decided to craft some bows for the primary purpose of competition. Optimal 27 is one of those bows. It pulls 35 lbs at 28”. II wanted to evaluate my bow’s cast. There is a simple method of comparing arrow speeds of different weighted bows. It’s not perfect but it close enough for me. For instance a 50 lb bow pulled to 28” should propel a 500 grain arrow at least 150 FPS, whereas my 35 lb bow drawn to 28” should propel a 350 grain arrow the same 150 FPS (10 grains per draw pound). There’s a lot more that goes into it, but this simple method allows for a reasonably good cast comparison of bows with different draw weights. Thorsten Nowak crafted me 12 wood arrows in the 350 grain range. They’re crafted of birch, and are back tapered. I registered 160 fps, which is not blistering fast but there are other considerations in evaluating a bow. For instance my bow is practically center shot, so an exact spine is not as essential for good arrow flight. I’m very satisfied with this bows performance especially with these arrows. I did a video. Please note that I manipulated this video, (I’ll call it poetic license lol), however I did not manipulate the arrow flight.
