The Vortex Beater vs. the Phantasm - which is better?

Terraria's penultimate ranged weapons - which one is better?
The third of the pillar comparisons.
Which one is better? It's a battle of convenience versus pure efficacy.
Sometimes, being lazy and loving the convenient option is the way to go forward - or at least, that's what I think.
Note: You should probably use both - maybe Phantasm then Beater - when fighting ML. It's better, though this is an analysis using only one. Also, Phantasm's risk factor changes when you turn down the difficulty.
