In today’s adventure, we’re just a few miles from the Canadian border in upstate New York to explore the St. Lawrence Centre in the town of Massena. Things began to turn south for the mall around 2009 with the closure of the local GM plant, a major hit to the Massena economy. In the following years, Alcoa shuttered the majority of it’s operations in the Massena area as well, which was yet another major hit to the local economy. Arguably the final nail in the coffin for the mall, was the covid-19 pandemic which cut off the border to Canadian shoppers and caused the mall itself to shutter for nearly 4 months.
