God is constantly revealing Himself through the process of calling God's people from Egypt with God's zeal, showing God with the 10 plagues, saving life through the blood of the Passover lamb, killing and reviving the Israelites in the Red Sea. God is constantly teaching who God is by not sending them straight to Canaan and making them stay at Mount Sinai, even if Canaan was not a very far place that the people can go at once. God's people must know what God wants and why God is sending God's people from Canaan to Egypt and calling them back to Canaan. So God gave them “various laws” centering on the “Ten Commandments”. He ordered a “new life” that is different from the way they lived before. This is because they are no longer servants of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, but “God's people” and “God's servants” (Lev 25:55).
God made them build a tabernacle for the “Atonement” of God's people who came out of Egypt, but still sinned as sinners and made it possible for them to make sacrifices through the tabernacle. Once a year on the Day of Atonement, the high priest forgave the sins they had commited for a year in the Atonement in the Most Holy Place. However, although the Israelites become “atoned,” seeing that they are constantly sinning, they still need to repent and hope for eternal Atonement. That is what God is saying through the tabernacle and through the sacrificing system. However, they begin to live by accepting the repetitive sins and repetitive atonement as a part of their everyday life. So God said in Leviticus, ' I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy.' He tells them not to follow or follow the Egyptian customs or the Canaanite customs (Lev 18:1-5). That is why he gave the “festivals” and told them to remember God through the festivals (Lev 23:1-44). Nevertheless, the Israelites will be dismissed from the land of God after being repeatedly punished for disobeying of God and not heeding the Word of God. And only then will they realize their hopelessness and seek for the true Messiah.
