Wednesday, The Sultan of Slowjamastan returned to America to defend his title as “Guacamole Guru” aka champion and first place winner of the 2023 “Guac-Off” Guacamole making competition. It was one year ago when The Sultan took home the “Silver Avocado,” rocking the international culinary world.

This year’s Guac-Off was again hosted at The San Diego Food Bank and featured a panel of distinguished judges and guacamole experts, including Xavier Equihua, President and CEO of the Peruvian Avocado Commission.
Among this year’s contestants determined to strip The Sultan of his avocado-crown were some of San Diego’s top-rated radio and TV personalities.

Spoiler alert: In a stunning turn of events – and some say a vicious set-up – The Sultan was de-throned almost immediately, eliminated in round one by the ladies of FOX 5. Being the gracious sportsman that The Sultan is, he congratulated the Fox 5’s Megan Healy and Heather Lake and cheered on the rest of the contestants as the contest continued. San Diego’s KUSI TV were the eventual winners and The Sultan wishes them all the best. His Excellency is already in the Slowjamastan Department of Culinary Arts Test Kitchen working on next year’s masterpiece.

And while citizens of Slowjamastan were disappointed in the judges decisions (maybe they had Covid and were lacking taste and smell?), the nation has plenty to rejoice over, including the trade agreement presented to Mr. Equihua from The Sultan himself. The Sultans “Sand-for-Avocados” trade deal is now one step closer to happening, which would help the nation’s stalling economy in a bog way.
