Remote communities in northern Thailand say an environmental crisis is unfolding.

The government's Pollution Control Department has detected dangerously high levels of arsenic in several rivers flowing across the border from Myanmar.

The suspected cause is a surge in unregulated rare earth mining.

International Correspondent Claudia Farhart has been in the small village of Tha Ton, on the Thai-Myanmar border, where life along the Kok River is under threat.
