The emergence of Artificial Intelligent (AI) has transformed the progress and efficiency of many industries, including translation, but can it eventually replace human translation? Derek F. Wong is an Associate Professor of the Department of Computer and Information Science at the University of Macau; he is also one of the founders of UTran-i Technology LTD. and AI2 Technology LTD. He has worked on natural language processing (NLP) and machine translation (MT) since 1998. He is the pioneer in Portuguese and Chinese MT research and has developed the first Portuguese-Chinese MT (PCT) system. He is the leader of the Natural Language Processing & Portuguese-Chinese Machine Translation (NLP2CT) research group and the founder of the NLP2CT laboratory. In 2012, Dr. Wong has received the Second-class Prize in the Science and Technology Progress Award category of the First Macao Science and Technology Award.
