Keynote Speaker: Dr Ridwanul Hoque.
Professor, Department of Law, DU and IASH-Alwaleed Research Fellow, the University of Edinburgh

[Dr. Hoque, IASH-Alwaleed Research Fellow, the University of Edinburgh; is a leading scholar of comparative constitutional law with special reference to South Asia. He is skilled in international migration law, anti-human trafficking law, children's rights, and citizenship law. He obtained A Doctor of
Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Law (Judicial Activism) from the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies, Dr Hoque has written expert reports for the several UK, USA, and Australian courts on issues of citizenship, statelessness, human rights conditions in Bangladesh prisons, tort law liability, and inheritance of parental debts in Bangladeshi law.

Organized by: Department of Law and Human Rights, University of Asia Pacific in collaboration with UNESCO Madanjeet Singh South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (UMSAILS).

Lecture Synopsis: In this Lecture, Dr. Houque connoted constitutionalism with democratic backstepping in the South Asian Region. He projected the argument of non-convergence between normative frameworks and the practice of constitutionalism in the Post-colonial era. He emphasized and intertwined the role of constitutional actors for restoring the golden pillar of democratic culture in south Asia. Eminent jurist Dr. Kamal Hossain was present among the audiences. BOT member of UAP; Mr. Qayum Reza Chowdhury; faculty members, students, prominent activists and notable practitioners were also present at the event. Convener of the program and head of the Department of Law and Human Rights; Dr Choudhury Ishrak Ahmed Siddiky also spoke at the program.
