Oropher the Father of Thranduil | Lord of the Rings Lore | Middle-Earth

Oropher was the father of Thranduil and the first Sindarin King of Mirkwood. His story starts off in the First Age of Middle-Earth, as an elf of Doriath and a series of tragic events led him to becoming the King of Greenwood the Great. After the creation of the One Ring and Sauron's rise in power, Oropher played a key part in the Battle of the Last Alliance, though he would meet a tragic end during that battle.
