Rebecca Felgate interviews Gloria Onitiri for OfficialTheatre.com. Gloria plays Rachel Marron in Olivier Award nominated West End production, The Bodyguard. In this video Gloria discusses life on stage as the alternate leading lady and the pressure that surrounds singing Whitney Huston songs to a theatre full of fans of the late pop legend.

Gloria Onitiri played the alternate to Heather Headley who originated the role. The role has since been taken on by Beverley Knight and it was recently announced that X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke will take over when she departs.

In this video Gloria talks about the honour of being in the original production of the show of such an iconic film. She talks about being a Whitney Houston fan, recalling that "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" was one of the first records she bought on vinyl. Gloria considers her favourite Whitney song and also her favourite song from the show.

Based on the 1992 film of the same name that starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. The Bodyguard musical opened in London's West End in 2012. The show is a jukebox musical made up of some of Whitney's greatest hits including "I Wanna Dance With Somebody", "Queen of the Night" and "I Will Always Love You".

The book is written by Alexander Dinelaris adapted from the original screen play by Lawrence Kasdan. The show tells the story of super star Rachel Marron who enlists the help of a Bodyguard, Frank Farmer when she is threatened by a stalker. What starts out as a difficult relationship soon turns to love. The musical differs from the film slightly in that it turns the focus on to the character of Rachel Marron.

This production was directed by Thea Sharrock, choreographed by Arthur Pita and features a design by Tim Hatley.
