A lot of parents confuse HSC rankings with “best school”. Yes — rankings measure things like Band 6 rates, but they can be misleading depending on what you care about. Some schools might be only ~1% apart on success rate… yet have very different results at the extreme top end. The bigger truth is this: your child’s internal ranking matters more than the school’s ranking. That’s why students from lower-ranked public schools can still achieve incredible ATARs — because they’re ranked right at the top of their cohort, so moderation works in their favour. Don’t choose schools based on the headline rank. Choose based on fit, subject strengths, and where your child can actually be near the top.
