Nepal Communist Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ visited the historic Mahat village in Rukum East and paid tribute to martyrs.
A candidate from Rukum East for the upcoming Falgun 21 election, Prachanda reached Mahat village early in the morning and offered garlands at the martyrs’ statues.

The War Memorial Park, built in memory of 58 individuals killed during the People’s War, stands against the backdrop of the historic Mahat village. On Ashoj 5, 2056 BS, DSP Thule Rai was taken under control by the then Maoists in Mahat village. Later, following an agreement between the state and the Maoists, Dev Gurung—who had been detained by the state—was handed over to the Maoists, while DSP Rai was returned to the state. Rai was one of the highest-ranking police officials captured during the conflict.

In Chaitra 2057 BS, the Maoists attacked and fully captured the Rukumkot police post.
