Memes have embedded themselves in modern Internet culture, and nowadays it is a rare person indeed who does not know about them. But memes have a dual existence in the social sciences where they provide a powerful perspective on how we interact with our world. This short talk presents the history of memes, a description of how memes "infect" humans, and a few examples of this process in the real world. Aadith is a sophomore at Rice University, majoring in Physics and Biochemistry. Despite this strong STEM focus, he is fascinated by the social world and how we can better understand it through the lens of science. Aadith especially enjoys learning about and sharing memes, hence this talk. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
