Winston-Salem Choral Artists, March 16, 2024. St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Dr. Chris Gilliam, artistic director and conductor. Dr. Robert Matthews, accompanist. Winston-Salem Pro Arte Chamber Strings.

MISSION: Winston-Salem Choral Artists is the premiere fully-professional choral organization in North Carolina’s City of Arts and Innovation. Dedicated to highest-level artistry, and in support of vocal artists from the Piedmont Triad and surrounding areas, its mission is to perform compelling and relevant repertoire before diverse audiences locally, regionally, and nationally, and to engage with and support artistic organizations and educational institutions in our city and beyond.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Having spent the better part of their lives and careers in music, the Choral Artists are exceptional soloists, musicians, and performers in their own right. They are also entrepreneurs, health care professionals, educators, therapists, and everything in between. It is the focus of the ensemble—the teamwork, camaraderie, discipline, and intentionality—that brings them together, but it is the power of the choral art and the impact that music continues to have in their lives, and can have in the lives of others, that compels them.

TRANSLATION: Hail, star of the sea, blessed Mother of God and ever Virgin, happy gate of heaven. Receiving that Ave from the mouth of Gabriel, establish us in peace, changing the name of Eve. Loosen the chains of sinners, give light to the blind, drive away our ills, obtain for us all good things. Show thyself a mother may he hear thy prayers Who, born for us, was willing to be thy Son. Virgin above all others, meeker than all, make us free from sin, meek and pure. Obtain for us a pure life, make safe our path, That seeing Jesus we may ever rejoice with thee. To God the Father be praise, glory to Christ on high, honour to the Holy Spirit, one in three. Amen.
