In the 1950s, five men of the French Foreign Legion became major crime lords, terrorists, or both, except for one - Otto Wolfgang Ort-Meyer. Ort-Meyer instead decides to pursue science and opens a genetic laboratory, doubling as an asylum, in Romania. There, he created clones and harvested organs in return for funding from his former comrades, who are all now filthy rich from their illicit dealings. Now with the money and resources to create the perfect soldier, Ort-Meyer finally achieved that in creating 47.

Born in 1964 in the asylum, 47 was Ort-Meyer's first genetic success. In his later years, 47 demonstrates his prowess by killing another clone in a bathroom stall and escaping the asylum. He is quickly recovered by one of the doctors and is commended for the kill, then rewarded with a pancake breakfast before being returned to the asylum. There, he trained in his youth with other clones in the art of assassination.

By the age of 30, 47 had passed every test imaginable and was deemed the most skilled and deadly clone. By this time, Ort-Meyer's comrades grew tired of funding the asylum without results, so Ort-Meyer hatched a plan that would give 47 his first real test. He allowed 47 to escape the asylum, become employed by the International Contract Agency, and from the shadows, would contract 47 to kill his distrusting comrades.
