PAINTING A GLASS VASE on THE ENCAUSTIC HOTPLATE

When a thin substrate with a reasonably non-absorbent surface is placed on top of an Encaustic Hotplate it allows wax colours to be melted and worked without restriction. These encaustic wax colours remain fluid due to the constant heating occurring below the substrate. Elisabeth uses a variety of tools to paint her version of a glass vase using this hotplate under-heating approach. It's not the fastest hotplate technique, but there is a lot to learn from by watching this if the idea interest you already.


Elisabeth van Uden is an artist working with the encaustic medium in many ways. She uses the Encaustic Art Wax Block colours in this video and is using white card as the substrate here.

Elisabeth van Uden created and painted twelve encaustic images to demonstrate and inform those beginning and looking to understand encaustic hot air gun work and encaustic hotplate work.
