Bitwise’s chief investment officer Matt Hougan says that while Bitcoin’s returns are expected to be strong over the next decade, investors shouldn’t count on massive, explosive gains like the huge year-over-year rallies seen in past cycles. According to Hougan, Bitcoin may enter what he calls a “10-year grind upward”, where the overall direction is positive but the price moves more steadily and with lower volatility meaning smaller ups and downs rather than dramatic spikes. He also reaffirmed his view that 2026 will likely be a positive year for Bitcoin, despite some debate over whether the traditional four-year cycle still applies. One factor he pointed to is slow-moving institutional buying, which helps support prices and has kept recent drawdowns shallower than in previous cycles.
