Superman saves Air Force One. In the extended version of this scene, one of the pilots mentions the "old man" and "peanuts", an obvious reference to the then-current President Jimmy Carter.

In the early 80's, network television stations paid by the minute for movies. Superman's Producer, Alexander Salkind was ruthless about it, restoring as much footage as he had, regardless of how it affected the story or upset the Director. That gave us all lots of new restored footage to watch in the ABC World Premieres.
