EGG #2 IS HERE- SHIFT CHANGE 🪺🦅🌴❤️CAPTIVA ISLAND EAGLES~ NEST OF CONNIE & CLIVE

Take a peek at egg #2 as Clive arrives this morning to relieve Connie during a shift change.

Here's some cool information you may or may not know... Eggs are generally laid 2 to 3 days apart and there can be up to 4 eggs in a single clutch. In the past, when eggs have broken, (example, Jak & Audacity from Sauces Island, California who have issues with thin egg shells every year for unconfirmed issues), or if the first clutch is laid early but fails to hatch, the females can produce more eggs to replace the failed clutch. The incubation period is roughly 35-40 days to hatch.🥚🐣

Due to the time gap between eggs, they do what is called delayed incubation to slow the growth of the first egg to hatch closer to the second and third egg if needed. They take breaks off the egg, allowing it to cool back down. This allows less dominance between the older and younger eaglets. Bonk city time!! We never know how many we will see which is what makes egg-watch so egg-citing! 😊🪺👀🫶

Also peep, Connie's special fluff decor she has on her nest. 🪶🪹 They also like to bring in palm fronds and recycle extra feathers from past meals. Kinda fancy... I love how each nest pair has their own quirks.

This nest is located in Southwest Florida, so their breeding season starts earlier than our eagles here on the West Coast and other areas.🌴🪹🌲
