Gujarat is a State of India located in the West region of the country. It is bordered by Madhya Pradesh to the East, Arabian sea to the West and South, Rajasthan to the North, Maharashtra and Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and DIU and Daman to the South-East and Pakistan to the North-West. The Kathiawar peninsula of Gujarat is surrounded by Gulf of Kuchh to the West and Gulf of Kumbhat to the East.

The State capital of Gujarat is Gandhinagar whereas the most populous City is Ahmedabad. Other major cities include Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Porbandar, etc.

Gujarat is the 5th largest state by area and 9th most populous Indian state.

Gujarat is famous for the Rann of Kachhch which is the largest salt desert in the World. During the Monsoon season the Rann of kuchhch turns into a great salt marsh lake.
The world's tallest statue (The Statue of Unity) is also located in Gujarat which is 182 meters tall. It is located on the banks of Narmada River 90 kilometers South-East of Vadodara City. Dwaraka is one of the 4 pilgrimage sites of Char dham pilgrimage which attracts thousands of Hindu yatris from India and abroad.

Politically Gujarat is dominated by the national parties BJP and Indian National Congress. Since the late 90's Gujarat is a strong political base for the Bharatiya Janata Party who is winning the State assembly elections since then. Even today BJP holds a comfortable majority in the Gujarat assembly and also all 26 Lok Sabha seats of Gujarat are represented by the BJP in the Lower house of Indian Parliament. Before 90's Congress dominated Gujarat politics.

The Father of Nation of India Mohan Das Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi) was born and raised in Porbandar, Kathiawar, Gujarat. The Founder of Pakistan and Father of Nation of Pakistan Muhammad Ali Jinnah's Parents were also from Gujarat's Kathiawar region who later shifted to Karachi, Sindh.
