There are two towns of Depalpur in the Subcontinent, one is in district Indore of state Madhya Pradesh, India and other is in district Okara in the Province of Punjab, Pakistan. The Depalpur under discussion is a Tehsil of District Okara, Province Punjab in Pakistan. It is the Tehsil headquarters of Tehsil depalpur. It is a place of antiquity and has its importance in history.It is situated on the bank of the Beas River in Bari Doab about 18 miles from Okara railway station and 20 miles north of River Sutlej. The distance of Depalpur from the district capital Okara is 26 kilometers. There is an assumption that Depalpur Tehsil is the largest Tehsil of Pakistan and the oldest city after Multan in the Subcontinent.This historical town was also used to be a citadel on the route from Sind, Pakpattan, Multan and Delhi. The town is surrounded by an old wall with four gates, one Thattiyari(Delhi darwaza) towards the east, Multani towards the west, the third is called Shumali Darwaza and forth is called Lahori Darwaza.The important buildings in the town are the Temple of Baba Lalu- Jas- Rai, Shahi Masjid, an old masjid of Khan–e-Khanan Wazir of Shah Jahan, Emperor of Delhi and Tomb of Imam Shah.There is a legend about the monastery of Baba Lalu-Jas-Rai, that Lalu-Jas-Rai was the young and beloved son of Raja Dipa Chand, the founder of Depalpur. He sank into earth due to a curse by his stepmother Rani Dhoolran. Raja Dipa Chand constructed this monastery in the memory of his son. The old town is on a high mound and defended by a trench. The land of the town is irrigated by the channels of the Khanwah Division of the Depalpur canal. There is a metalled road from Depalpur to Okara. The sole purpose of writing this paper is to restore this place and make it a tourist spot for the people, especially for our neighboring country. Just as the Kartarpur corridor has been opened for the Punjabi people of the neighboring country, so it should be opened for the followers of Baba Lalu Jas Rai Ji.in this way the trend of tourism in the state will increase and our state will develop further. Dipalpur is literally a lost city, as it is being totally neglected by the government to preserve its historical monuments and bring it on the tourist map. Needless to say that a big effort is needed to bring its historical assets to light.
