Wheat crop is cultivated on a large area of Punjab and different other parts of country. Due to unfavorable weather forecast conditions, wheat crop lodges in different areas. In this video, we have highlighted the expected loss of wheat production in case of lodging of wheat. Wheat production loss depends upon the stage of wheat crop. If wheat lodges at an earlier stage, loss will be high. Whereas, if wheat lodges at a later mature stage, despite of severe lodging, production loss will not be very high. Different percentages have been described in this video to access the actual expected loss of wheat production.
The core area of wheat in the central to southern Punjab was affected more than the northern Punjab, KPK and Sindh. Farmers were worried about their wheat crop production losses. Through this video, we have informed the farmers about their yield losses due to the incidence of lodging of current crop of wheat.
It has been informed that wheat crop suffers the losses of 50% or more where it lodges at the earing and fertilization stage. Most crop of rain fed areas and KPK was not badly hit and crop was most probably at this stage. The crop badly lodged at milky stage may suffer a yield loss of 30% whereas, an estimate of 10 % has been calculated if it lodges at hard milky or dough stage. Very minor yield is expected if lodged after change in color of wheat ears and stems.
It is a matter of pleasure and obligation to Allah Tala that wheat crop was very excellent, early sown has not lodged and most of the crop was at hard milky and dough stage in central and southern Punjab. An overall yield loss was expected up to 10% but a week of low temperature prevailed after rainstorm which has again recompensed the loss and a very good wheat crop production is still expected this year.
