Hello everyone, this time I do want to fix a long standing issue with my 2011 Giulietta 1750 TBI, i.e. thermostat stuck open issue.

It is very annoying as whenever the car being driven in motorway for long time in winter, the coolant temperature will go lower and lower to a point ECU thought the temperature sensor is having some issue and decided to protect the engine by turning on radiator fan at full speed which eventually drag down the temperature further. At the same time, dashboard will become a Christmas tree and start throwing all those famous but vague and confusing message like Steering Wheel Corrector Unavailable, Check Engine, VDC Unavailable, Hill Holder Unavailable …. etc.

The error code in question is P0116-28 Water Temperature Signal failure. While clearing this fault will bring everything back to normal temporarily, the next time coolant temperature went too low the same fault will be triggered again. Not to mention running engine with temperature too low all the time may bring moisture and condensation to oil (and you may see a little bit of milkshake on the oil cap, which is not the end of the world because it is not caused by mix of coolant and engine oil but still not ideal and look scary)
