OK punks and new wavers, while ya’ll were wearing jammies, Atlanta was rockin’ already. The early 70’s were red hot and EQT was one of my faves. They had that rarest of things, the drummer was the lead singer. When do you ever see that? Levon Helm. Who else? Ringo on a few tunes I guess. These guys could really bring it. Kick ass southern rock, bluesy as hell. Donnie was a skinny white kid with a big black voice, not unlike Steve Marriott, who was an Atlantan for a few years. He had a recording studio here near where I grew up. Now totally the Hood. Lake Spivey was a small resort south of Atlanta which got a little old and run down so they started having concerts to bring in the dough. Pink Floyd played there. Don’t know how I missed that but I saw some really good shows there. Missed this one, too, but I saw EQT many times in sweaty dives and Piedmont Park. I had the LP with the PBR homage on the cover but it’s long gone. Wish I still had it. I wonder if Kevn Kinney ever heard their song Chattahoochee Coochee Man? Kev? I have no idea where the tape is from. It's a soundboard, for sure. Local FM radio did broadcasts from there. Presented for historical and documentary purposes only.
