Into To Social Work week 4

Описание к видео Into To Social Work week 4

Scenario 1: You have been working with a client consistently for a long time. The client surprises you during the holidays by giving you a gift and expresses how thankful they are for all you have done for them.
This would dabble along the lines of interfering with conflicts of interest. In section B it states that social workers should not take unfair advantage of any professional relationship. Even though the sentiment is wonderful, it is inappropriate for a client to gift a social worker. This would be something more than a professional relationship and not for something that a client and social worker should do. This also plays on importance of human relationships. The client feels it is important to give the social worker a gift, but it is inappropriate due to their professional relationship.
Scenario 3: One of your co-workers has come to you for advice about a client they have worked with for some time. The client is progressing significantly toward their goals but has recently expressed romantic feelings toward your co-worker. Your co-worker says they reinforced professional boundaries with the client but admits they have felt similar romantic feelings. You are not their supervisor.
In section 1.06 Conflicts of Interest in the social worker code of ethics clearly states that social workers should be alert and avoid conflicts of interest. As outlined in section C social workers should not engage in dual or multiple relationships with the client. This means that any sort of relationship outside of a client social worker setting would be considered inappropriate. I would suggest to my supervisor that the clients case is transferred to another social worker immediately due to the mutual romantic feelings. This also aligns with the value of dignity and worth of a person which states that social workers treat each person in a caring and respectful manner.
Scenario 8: A family member of one of your clients calls you for help because they are very worried about their loved one, who seems to be in crisis and may be suicidal. In the past, your client provided a release of information so that you could collaborate with this family member, but they have recently asked you to keep the details of their case private from family.
Outlined in section 1.07 Privacy and Confidentiality I cannot work with this family and only work with the client. The client has clearly stated that I cannot collaborate with their family members any longer and their privacy is valued. This is an ethical dilemma because the client’s family member feels that the client is in crisis, however, the client has clearly stated that they do not wish to disclose the details of the case with the family. The client is my responsibility not the family. To be safe I will arrange for a suicide assessment to be done but not share the results with the family. I will also provide the number to the crisis and suicide prevention hotline to my client during our next visit. This plays on the value of importance of human relationships. It states that social workers recognize the importance of human relationships this includes when people do not want to disclose information to other people.
