At Monks Bouffe, we hold this tree very close to our heart. And there are various reasons for it.

The Kalpavriksh as the tribal communities have been calling it from time immemorial, this tree is one of the most significant and crucial trees for our ecosystems - nature as well as humans.

From the edible importance of most of its parts, to the environmental impact it had on our forest eco-systems - It is the Mother Tree of India.

The Thakar tribal community here in Maharashtra holds it very dear to their heart as well and have been preserving this heritage tree against potential deforestation and timber traders.

They dry and preserve the Mahua fruits for the whole year to be consumed as a vegetable, the mahua flowers are dried and preserved to prepare various sweets and porridge while the mahua seeds are pressed into one of the cleanest oils used for all sorts of cooking.
