Sega Touring Car Championship [Saturn] by SEGA - Championship Mode (2'51"647) [HD] [1080p]

Sega Touring Car Championship (セガ ツーリングカーチャンピオンシップ) for the Saturn is a 1997 port of AM Annex's Model 2 arcade racer.

Playing with a modern analog gamepad really makes all the difference here. While the cars still don't have much grip, a proper analog stick allows for a far greater degree of control than you can get with any of the Saturn's own peripherals.

STCC Model 2 Review:

Following the success of Sega Rally, the game's designer, Tetsuya Mizuguchi, again looked to create another racing title, only this time featuring touring cars. Like Sega Rally, it too would stress realism. But where Rally's focus lies primarily on its various road surfaces, Sega Touring Car Championship, as it was to be called, would instead concentrate on perfecting car physics upon tarmack.

In addition to the usual research, Mizuguchi and his newly-formed AM Annex team went out of their way gathering first-hand experience. They traveled abroad to watch real touring car races, rode shotgun with the sport's own drivers, and even spent some time behind the wheel themselves. In the end though, the result was a very slippery, difficult racer. Between the game's insane learning curve and its focus on a relatively unknown motorsport, Tour Caring was not well received in arcades.

However, this is not a bad game! While the cars are overly-responsive, with much practice, they are indeed driveable. Beyond the handling, the rest of Touring Car is really quite impressive. The tracks are well-designed, the techno music energetic, and the numerous real-world cars decked out with tons of actual corporate sponsorships are seriously cool! If the controls were ever tightened up in a port, I think Touring Car could stand proudly alongside the best of Sega's racers.
