The Truth About Roles in FM

'The Truth' is baaaaack. Football Manager players have two different positional decisions to make. Positions themselves and roles. The only problem is that sentence is wrong. Roles are not like positions at all, working as a group of player instructions your player is likely to succeed in. It has nothing to do with the magic FM20 hidden attribute versatility. There is no role familiarity at all, in fact.

It’s true, Football Manager is not perfect. This concept is explained very poorly by the UI in the game, but players are not ‘complete forwards’ by nature; they are just predisposed to play that way. If you feel like your mind is blown, good! That’s the first step to getting roles working in your favor and being able to properly weigh risk and reward, which is essentially the entirety of FM in microcosm. Wahoo!
