In today's Kim's Adventure we visit the Hello Kitty Grand Cafe Irvine.

It began in 2009 when Irvine couple Urania and Charlie Chen visited a Hello Kitty Cafe while in Taiwan.

When they got back home, Urania began emailing Sanrio every month, asking to launch the first Hello Kitty Cafe in America.

She didn’t get a response for nearly 5 years, but finally Sanrio allowed them to start a Hello Kitty food truck.

They enlisted their friend Allan Tea, who’s family owns a seafood restaurant, to help them out.

Their pink pop up truck was an instant hit, driving through 80 cities across the country.

In 2018, Sanrio finally approved them to open up a European-style Hello Kitty Cake Shop, and the Hello Kitty Grand Cafe was born.

The concept of the Grand Cafe is the first of it’s kind for Sanrio.

There’s a grab-and-go area out front that offers guests a selection of hello kitty treats, plus limited-time seasonal items.

They serve exclusive mini cakes inspired by different Sanrio Characters and mini donuts made fresh and served hot in flavors such as cinnamon sugar or matcha.

The front area is fairly minimalist and restrained, with clean white walls accented with embossed hello-kitty themed icons and art.

Then there’s the reservation-only experience in the bow room.

A plain white door with a gold-bow shaped knocker marks the entrance to the Bow Room described as a “pink oasis”.

As you walk in, Nearly everything is pink in a surprisingly sleek and modern interior, including the massive illuminated Hello Kitty outline backing the bar.

The Bow Room offers afternoon tea service that costs $60 per person for a pre fixed menu which includes savory items and a pot of tea of your choice.

Afternoon Tea is a family friendly experience for ages 4 and up.

After 5pm the Bow room converts into a 21 and over cocktail bar, featuring drinks with a Hello Kitty Twist.

It was a cold day so our relatives grabbed themselves some Hot Chocolate. I remember getting something similar when we were in Seoul Korea.
