Who is Shah Ghulam Qadir?

Shah Ghulam Qadir is a senior politician from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and a prominent leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz). He has played an important role in AJK politics for several decades and is known for his parliamentary experience and organizational skills.

He served as the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir from 2018 to 2021, after being elected by the AJK Legislative Assembly. Before becoming prime minister, Shah Ghulam Qadir also held the key position of Speaker of the AJK Legislative Assembly, a role in which he was widely recognized for his command over parliamentary procedures and legislative affairs.

During his tenure as prime minister, Shah Ghulam Qadir focused on governance reforms, development projects, and strengthening institutional frameworks in AJK. He repeatedly highlighted issues related to infrastructure development, education, health, and employment, while also raising the Kashmir dispute at national and international forums in line with Pakistan’s official stance.

As a seasoned parliamentarian, Shah Ghulam Qadir is regarded as a strong advocate of democratic norms and constitutional processes in AJK. Even after leaving office, he continues to remain active in politics and is considered an influential figure within PML-N’s AJK chapter, often consulted on political and legislative matters.
