The San Joaquín sugar mill is an old factory in Malaga located in the municipality of Maro. This mill was dedicated to the exploitation of sugar cane. The productive beginnings of this place were the production of refined sugar and Caribbean sugar, although as the means and technology advanced, the production of liquors was also incorporated.
The San Joaquín factory covered an area of ​​37,000 square metres, although the extension is much larger if all the facilities and adjacent land are added, such as the cultivation areas themselves, in the so-called Tablazo de Maro (1,420,160 m²), the Águila aqueduct (built in 1870), the workers' homes or the pond for water storage. The main complex is organised in a structure of three naves, the central one being the largest, using lowered openings in all of them.
