West Kalimantan holds more than 60% of the national bauxite reserves, making this province the region with the largest bauxite reserves in Indonesia. In order to optimize the utilization of existing bauxite resources, the development of a manufacturing industry for processing SGA into Aluminum Ingots with a purity of 99.99% was chosen as a proposed project to be offered to investors. This proposed business line is included in the KBLI 24202 and HS CODE 760110 classifications. Aluminum Ingot products with a high level of purity are generally used as raw materials for aluminum-based electronic components. Taking into account the availability of the main raw materials in the form of Smelter Grade Alumina (SGA) as well as the dynamics and projections of market needs, the targeted production capacity is 80,000 tons/year.

The development of the Ketapang Industrial Estate through mainstreaming bauxite product downstreaming refers to the National Industrial Development Master Plan (RIPIN), the Provincial Industrial Development Plan (RPIP) and the Regency Industrial Development Plan (RPIK) that have been determined. The Ketapang Industrial Estate is currently identified as having a total area of ​​2,150 Ha with a land status that is already clean and clear. Therefore, this location is considered strategic to be selected as a location for the development of a manufacturing industry for processing SGA into High Purity Aluminum Ingots which is estimated to require the availability of 90 Ha of land. In terms of location accessibility, the Ketapang Industrial Estate is also considered to have a fairly strategic location, which is only about 60 km from the city center, and 63 km from Rahadi Oesman Airport. The Ketapang Industrial Estate provides a Special Terminal located within the area to support operational activities. The Ketapang Industrial Estate is also supported by a fiber optic network owned by PT Telkom for telecommunications and internet connection needs. Meanwhile, the energy needs of this industrial area are supported by the 150 kilo Volt (kV) Ketapang - Kendawangan High Voltage Air Line (SUTT) and the 30 MW Kendawangan Main Substation which is only 9 km away.
