Love (Episode #5 of An Archipelago of Information Science)

Описание к видео Love (Episode #5 of An Archipelago of Information Science)

Welcome to the Island of Love. This episode of the series, An Archipelago of Information Science, revisits a video I made, a few years ago, entitled The Crossroads of Information and Love. I could think of no better way to sum-up this island! The video counts down the following ten ways that information and love are conjoined: 10. SENSORY AND EMBODIED INFORMATION (since love is communicated in a lover’s kiss or touch) #9. CAROL KUHLTHAU (the first in LIS to recognize an affective dimension of information seeking) #8. LOVE STUDIES (an emerging academic interdiscipline that is focusing scholarly attention on love) #7. BIBLIOPHILES, LECTIOFILES, SAPIOSEXUALS (terms for people who love books, reading, and ideas, respectively) #6. AFFECTIVE COMPUTING (which integrate feelings into computer operations) #5. BIBLIOTHERAPY (a practice of librarianship in which books are recommended for healing the heart) #4. CARDIO INFORMATICS (a field that combines information and the heart) #3. ONLINE DATING (many people find love through this technology) #2. "LOVE AS A LENS for LIS..." (a great article by Mary Greenshields and Sarah Polkinghorne) #1. YOU (self-knowledge and self-love are perhaps the most important concepts on this island). There is still much to learn on the island of Love!

ABOUT THE VIDEO SERIES
This series, An Archipelago of Information Science, explores ideas on the frontier of Information Science. It enacts the metaphor of an island chain—an archipelago—of incipient concepts existing still somewhat offshore, but within sight, of the Information Science "mainland." Viewers are taken on an archipelago adventure, guided by a seagull avatar of Professor Jenna Hartel. There are several destinations, namely: Embodied Information, Contemplation, the Multispecies Perspective, Love, Time, and Psychedelic Information Theory. At each stop on the journey, the featured concept is defined and situated within the history and literature of Information Science. A Conclusion to the Series provides succinct highlights and thought questions from each island, in the form of postcard messages to students. The archipelago concept was developed for an invited presentation at the 2023 European Conference on Information Literacy (Krakow, Poland). A free souvenir map that summarizes the series is available at https://tinyurl.com/yt75bsmu. The description box, below each video, contains selected resources on the topic from the Information Science literature. Of note, in December 2023 this video series contains 7 episodes (featuring 5 islands); an additional island, Time, will be uploaded shortly.
