This is the Shnobel Tone Daily Driver: a do-it-all overdrive pedal from Roman at the legendary Shnobel YouTube channel!

The Shnobel channel is iconic in the guitar YouTube world – since 2010, Roman has made over 2750 videos about guitar gear, tone and music, and he’s always been a go-to for me when I’m searching for new pedals and gear to improve my guitar rig.
As well as being a top player and tonal tweaker, though, Roman is also a vastly experienced and respected musician and modder of gear, and on his Shnobel Tone website he offers a number of pedal mods.
For the last few years, he’s also been building pedals, of which the Daily Driver is probably the most famous. And now, finally, I’ve got my hands on one to see what all the fuss is about!
The Daily Driver is an original circuit, and Roman’s aim is for anyone to be able to get their core drive tones – along with an amp-like playing feel – from it, no matter what kind of music you’re making, or what kinds of guitars, pickups and amps you’re using.
Considering that, it’s a surprisingly simple pedal in terms of layout – you get a Volume and Gain knob, and a two-band EQ with Low and High controls. There’s also a three-way high cut switch… and that’s it! Made in the USA by Roman, the Daily Driver comes in a classy, minimalist black design, and will set you back $279 as of 2024.
The big question is: does the Daily Driver live up to its heady reputation? Can it really become my (or your) new daily drive pedal? That’s what we’re about to find out! In the video, I try out the Daily Driver in as many musical styles as possible to see how versatile it truly is.
That means everything from country, folk and indie, to pop, rock, blues, punk, metal and more. I use my Fender Telecaster for single coil tones, and my Epiphone Les Paul for humbucking sounds. There’s even a couple of loops where we really twist the knobs of the pedal to see just how versatile it truly is.

My setup was as follows: I ran the Daily Driver straight into my Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit 200 head. That went from the amp’s Red Box DI straight into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which went into Logic Pro X. That's it. No post-processing on the sounds was done. Oh, and I used my Boss RC-10R to play the loops.
