Does Single Channel DDR5 hurt performance?

We know that running a single stick of DDR4 harms performance, but DDR5 is built different: Each stick has 2 channels. So we set about testing a single stick to see if there's a performance difference. Can the new design mitigate some of the detriment of running just one stick?
