April 12, 1995 - After averaging just five points over the first 20 games of the 1994-95 season, Detroit Pistons second year guard Allan Houston closed the season with a fury, averaging 25.6 points over his team's final 18 games, shooting over 50 percent from the field, 45.9 percent from deep, and 90 percent from the free throw line.

Houston's end-of-season performance served as a coming out party. He'd go on to average close to 20 points a night in '96, parlaying his on-court skills into a $55 million deal with the New York Knicks.

As for the Pistons, losing the Allan Houston free agent sweepstakes in '96 had a trickle down effect. While they were initially believed to be a frontrunner for landing Juwan Howard, Houston's departure reportedly gave Howard cold feet, leading him to sign with the Miami Heat (his Heat contract would later be voided for violating salary cap rules, leading him to re-sign with Washington). As a result, a potential Grant Hill-Juwan Howard-Allan Houston triumvirate suddenly turned into Hill-Thorpe-Mills.
