Accident on the Paraná River: EN MAY Allides with Bridge Pillar
Initial reports indicate that on Sunday, January 28th, the Pilot aboard EN MAY (IMO 9789829), flying the Liberian flag, encountered steering difficulties while navigating upstream on the Paraná River at Km 106 RPP (ZARA). The vessel, originating from Singapore and destined for San Lorenzo, Argentina, lost control due to unspecified steering issues, ultimately colliding with the right bank pillar of the Zárate-Brazo Largo bridge.
Fortunately, there were no injuries among the crew, and no pollution incidents were reported. However, water ingress into the port-side hull prompted emergency measures. Navigation in the area is currently suspended pending further inspection by relevant authorities.
On Monday afternoon, a salvage company intervened to relocate the vessel for inspection and damage assessment. Argentine road authorities and the bridge concessionaire will also evaluate potential structural damages to the bridge.
