DAYTON -- Dozens of local postal employees protested today (Nov. 14) over the possibility of lost jobs and delays in service.

The workers gathered outside the East Fifth Street office over proposed cuts. Beginning in January, 82 processing and distribution centers nationwide, including the one in Dayton, are set to close.

Workers say this would not only delay service to customers but risks jobs.

"If the plant is closed down, we're going to lose a lot of small business that are going to follow the plants, because e-commerce is a booming business right now," said Nathan Grant, director of legislation.

More than 200 lawmakers are now calling to delay the closures for at least a year so other options can be considered. The agency suffered a loss of $5.5 billion last year due to the gaining popularity of the Internet.
