I have always been fascinated by the local folklore of Northumberland, everything from the numerous ghostly tales to the mythical legends of old Northumbria.

A wander through the hills of Simonside, near Rothbury, seemed the perfect place to take a dip into some ancient folklore.
The crags around Simonside have been rumoured for hundreds of years to be home to a mischievous race of fairy folk known as the Duergar! They are said to lead a weary traveller to a grisly end by leading them over the crags to their death.

Other names include the Simonside Dwarves, Bogles or Brownmen, and they are said to reside within the craggy stones, cairns and burial mounds that are nestled upon the Simonside hill tops.

With this short film I wanted to try and convey a sense of mystique and I wanted to show the exposed rugged landscape of Simonside for what it is.
These combined with the themes of exploration, wildlife and folklore I do hope that it translates across to the viewer and inspires you to go and have a look for the Duergar yourself.

........but don't go alone......just incase they DO appear amongst the crags.....
