For those unaware like myself. K-ON!! is an anime about high school girls who form a light music club. The name K-ON, which is short for 軽音楽, literately translates to light music. As far as I can tell, light music is a genre of music akin to light rock music. The anime based its location completely around and in this real life quaint elementary school. K-ON is wildly popular around the globe and the entire town of Toyosato has embraced the fame. I've never had any personal interest in this style of anime but considering how it's right next to my house and I'm moving soon... It's about time to see the fuss myself.

The school was built in 1937 with donations from a local merchant, Tetsujiro Furukawa. The architect, William Merrell Vories, is a former American-turned-naturalized Japanese citizen who is famous for his architecture all around the Kansai area. It was a functioning elementary school for six decades up until 2004 when the students moved to a new building. It originally was to be demolished but public outcry has ensured its ongoing preservation. Recently renovated and restored, it's now open to the public and serves the community as a tourism office, public library, daycare and mecca to K-On fans alike.
