It has rightfully been said that the history of Port Adelaide cannot be written without reference to the football club that carries its name. Formed in 1870, the Port Adelaide Football Club has been integral to the community and its story since then. But what was Port Adelaide actually like at that time? In this short video, we share some images from 1870 to give you a sense of the place when players first put on their boots for this remarkable club.

This is a club steeped in honour and tradition. This is a club that honours its past, and is excited for the future. This is a club whose story has endured some tough times, but it's mostly a story of bravery and success.
Over the last couple of weeks, we've been sharing stories about the people of Port Adelaide, thanks to the support of the City of Port Adelaide Enfield. And while this particular video falls outside the scope of that project as its about the Club, and not an individual person, we thought it important... indeed, essential... that we pause for a moment, and take a look at how things were at the beginning... to think about where the Club has come from... and to celebrate the ongoing story that is the Port Adelaide Football Club.
