Wow, check out the history of the Egypt Exploration Society!

At he height of the British Empire the "upper classes" rampaged through historical places of history. For good or bad, these places were documented, and sent back mostly to London and strenthgennd the Britsh Museum's collection.

There were however offshoots of these endevours, and the Egypt Exploration Society was one. The society still excists today only half a mile away from its beginnings in Bloomsbury.
