Students in a small Newfoundland town used MIT's Scratch coding software and a heroic dose of imagination to bring kindergarten fantasies to life. Kinder Heroes is a joint production by student volunteers in Grades 4-7 classes at Holy Redeemer Elementary in the seaside town of Spaniard's Bay, where I was worked as a technology teacher this spring. Kindergartners in Stephanie Menchions' kindergarten class used paper and crayons to design their own superheroes, which our older students digitized and transformed into animated stories, narrated by their young authors.

This project is a vivid example of digital storytelling, an amazing technique that harnesses kids' love of video games and inspires them to tell amazing stories using simple block-based code commands in Scratch.
