Learning nursery rhymes on guitar is a great way for beginners to master the basics. We will discuss finger positions, chord switching, strumming, reading TABs, and practice along to a backing track.

The lesson begins with the chord shapes used to play Itsy Bitsy Spider in the key of C: C and G. I have two ways to play the G chord, and you can use either, depending on what's comfortable for you.

We practice chord switching, making sure we can switch from C to G, and then we practice the chord progression using downstrokes only, just so we can work on counting the beat and changing chords at the right time.

Next we learn the strumming pattern, which is very very simple: D-Du. We play the strumming pattern one time per chord shape.

Itsy Bitsy Spider's melody is a little quick. We can play it using a pick, or using your fingers, but I recommend a pick since it helps to play the faster bits using down-up's. We learn it from the TAB, bit by bit, and then we put it all together, and we play along.

Finally, I have a backing track for Itsy Bitsy Spider that you can practice either the chords, singing, strumming, or melody to. This gives you a great opportunity to work everything out nice and slow.
