Use InSoFast EX 2.5 panels or

This video compares outdated "best practice" field assemblies of continuous insulation rain-screen systems with the InSoFast EX 2.5 panel.

InSoFast single panel eliminates multi-step and complex field assembly methods. We compare ourselves to the best practices now being used by the best building scientists and builders today. WHY WORK SO HARD?

Step 1. Install your air barrier and weather tight and then test your air barrier application.

Step 2. Create a capillary break and a drainage field next to your air barrier, here we choose a drainage mat. Nail or staple the mat to the wall through the air barrier to the sheathing.

Step 3. Choose an insulation panel for it's long term and stable "R-Value," through all temperature ranges.

Step 4. Choose the right fastener system to pin the insulation onto the wall. You are going to want to pick one with a recessed thermal chamber to prevent cold spotting and thermal bridging.

Step 5. Bigger is not always better all foam boards shrink to the center over time and can vary up to 2%. So two eight foot insulation board butted up together could develop a significant gap between the boards. So tape all your seams to help prevent water-air- and energy leaks from becoming excessive.

Step 6. Select the best furring strip for the weight and wind-loading that your exterior siding material will require. Plan your furring strip layout and install them so they will not impede air or water flow. Make sure you have the right length and exterior coated fastener to go through all your layers and into the structural frame work. You need to go through the furring strip-through the insulation- through the drainage mat- through the air barrier-through the sheathing- and into the (if wood studs at least 3/4" penetration) Steel studs the penetration should be that the threads to the maximum diameter of the screw's shaft.

So Why work so Hard?

InSoFast has it all a rain-screen with built-in drainage and ventilation layers provides a reliable protection from moisture build-up. Reducing solar driven moisture from the outside to migrate inwards is an essential requirement to keep wall systems dry. This is especially important for absorptive cladding like adhered manufactured stone veneer or conventional stucco.

InSoFast is a better way to achieve a net zero home by starting with a monolithic continuous insulation envelop.

InSoFast is an insulated and ventilated Rainscreen that provides superior drainage and drying capacity, a complete capillary break, and an effective barrier and is insulated against solar driven moisture. The ideal protection behind cement board, cedar, adhered manufactured stone veneer, conventional stucco, and other moisture sensitive claddings.

InSoFast is a complete system that includes a for the rainscreen and R-10 insulation for an exterior wall. It is part of an advanced building approach that only 10% of the most energy efficient builders are using today. The other 90% won’t be forced to do this until after the 2020 building codes are adopted and most of them see no reason to aim higher. InSoFast is about durability and efficiency.

Thermal Control Layer
The addition of InSoFast’s exterior rigid insulation can significantly improve the wall assembly thermal performance because it provides a continuous insulation layer that diminishes the impact of thermal bridges caused by framing.
Thermal bridging through framing components reduces envelope insulation performance by 15-20% in wood frame construction and by 40%-60% in metal frame construction
Continuous Insulation (Ci) is an insulation blanket around the exterior of the structure. Ci creates a thermal break between wall framing and the exterior conditions. Installing CI reduces energy loss caused by bridging over the thermal gaps at the wood or metal studs and other wall framing components. Additionally, InSoFast’s insulation on the exterior of wall framing reduces potential for moisture problems. InSoFast acts as a moisture barrier, so water that gets into the wall system is deflected or drained away. Next when insulation is placed on the exterior of the wall structure, the dew point is moved outward reducing the potential for condensation on the warm side of the wall where building materials are more sensitive to rotting.

The threat of moisture damage also is reduced
InSoFast’s advanced panel additionally to reducing heat loss and increasing the R-value of the wall system, the other benefits of putting insulation on the outside of your wall: Include reducing the chance for the moisture in the cavity (water vapor) to condense on the inside face of the sheathing, which happens when the sheathing temperature is below the dew point.

InSoFast has an effective dual rainscreen pre-engineered into our continuous insulation panels.
