ALPHA PAPA is a 2013 film featuring the broadcasting legend Alan Partridge. It was directed by Declan Lowney and written by Steve Coogan, Armando Iannucci, Peter Baynham and Neil and Rob Gibbons.
Partridge began his career in hospital radio before landing a job as a sports reporter for BBC Radio 4's satirical news program On the Hour in 1991.
Following his radio success, he was given his own BBC chat show, Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge, first on radio in 1992 and then on television in 1994.
His television career came to a screeching halt during the 1995 Christmas special, Knowing Me, Knowing Yule, when he physically assaulted a BBC commissioner during a segment.
After his public firing, Partridge entered a period of professional and personal ruin, documented in the show I'm Alan Partridge (1997, 2002). Living in a roadside hotel and hosting a late-night slot on Radio Norwich, he desperately tried to pitch new—and absurd—TV ideas to the BBC.
The second series of I'm Alan Partridge saw him living in a static caravan and, at one point, recovering from a mental breakdown, but still on the slow path to recovery with a slightly better radio show time slot.
After a hiatus, Partridge returned in the web series Mid Morning Matters with Alan Partridge (2010), co-hosting a digital radio show with "Sidekick Simon." The show was later broadcast on Sky Atlantic.
His autobiography, I, Partridge: We Need to Talk About Alan (2011), became a bestseller. He followed this with a travelogue, Alan Partridge: Nomad (2016), and the book Big Beacon (2023).
In 2019, he made a triumphant return to the BBC as a co-host of the magazine show This Time with Alan Partridge. Following his firing from This Time, Partridge embarked on a UK live tour called Stratagem (2022), offering his motivational speaking, and created a self-funded mental health documentary series, How Are You? It's Alan (Partridge) (2025).
