In March of 1997, actor Kurt Russell unknowingly became the only pilot to report the Phoenix Lights while flying his private plane into Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport with his son, Oliver Hudson. As they approached the city, they spotted six bright lights in a V-shaped formation, hovering in the sky. Russell radioed air traffic control, only to be told that there were no registered aircraft in that area. Thinking little of it, he landed the plane and moved on. It wasn’t until years later, while watching a documentary with his wife, Goldie Hawn, that he realized he had been part of one of the most famous UFO events in history. Reflecting on the experience, Russell has since stated that he believes the sighting was truly unidentified and unusual.

Alice Cooper, an Arizona native and rock legend, had his own encounter with strange lights in the sky a few years later. In 2000, while driving from Phoenix to Los Angeles, Cooper witnessed an unusual aerial phenomenon near Blythe, California, which he compared to the infamous Phoenix Lights. The eerie experience left an impression on him, reinforcing his belief that something unexplained had occurred over Arizona.
